Beatbox tutorial – Making new beats

Beatbox tutorial - Making new beats

Another wordy video, this time offering tips on creating, writing, and recording your own beats. I do not know why I’m so quiet throughout… something to watch out for next time I guess. The freestyle in the middle is genuinely freestyled – I’d never done it before. It’s an experiment – try it yourselves, beatbox something you’ve never done before. It can give some decent results. It’s worth noting regarding notation that I don’t actually use Standard Beatbox Notation in it’s rawest form – I use too many sounds that are specifically mine to do that and it’s also very confusing for those less musically trained. My method has the drawback that timing is hard to follow, but ah well, it works. So, to recap… -Listen to music you like (I highly recommend rock – the drum fills are awesome to follow) -Jam along with music -Learn to write beatbox somehow -Record yourselves -Start with the basics Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox. Beatbox tutorial – Classic snare drum (Pff / pft snare)

www.fattonybbx.com Ah, the snare. My old nemesis. It took me eight freakin’ months to get this sound down. Eight! It’s supposed to be one of the easy sounds! Eight months! Ah well, I’ve explained it nice and easy so hopefully it won’t take you guys quite as long. To make the sound 1 – It’s similar to saying the word “poof” without the “oo” 2 – Once you have this “pf” vocalisation, simply experiment with your lips – generally the tighter they are, the higher the snare is Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox. Beatbox TUTORIAL – Tape Recorder Rewind Sound Effect

Learn how to beatbox & make the sound of a tape deck rewinding! If you like the tutorial, leave a comment or post a video response of yourself doing it! =D

www.fattonybbx.com Here we are, to celebrate 1000 subscribers I am teaching you my patented waterdrop sound! This is one of my trademark, favorite, and most awesome sounds because it’s so unique – people are like “zomfg” when I do it anyway, then when you drop a bassline over it it’s like “wtf hax”. I honestly hope you enjoy learning this very special sound. I’ll teach my cricket sound at 2000 subscribers, so you best start spreading the word! How to make the sound 1 – Learn to whistle without using any air from your lungs. This is done by pushing air past your lips using your tongue. 2 – Either flick your cheek or make some kind of clicking sound – a standard click or a tongue clop works best. 3 – Immediately after making the initial sound (the flick or click) do the whistle inwards then outwards quickly. This will get the sound. To recognise the exact position you should have your lips in, watch my mouth carefully in the video. Beatbox tutorial – Siren (Method 1)

www.fattonybbx.com More people ask for a tutorial of this sound than any other. I don’t even know why – there isn’t much you can even do with it. Sounds cool though. Apologies for the amp use – I wasn’t expecting it to overload the camera’s mic as much as it did. Still conveys the message though, that’s the important thing. To make the sound 1 – Position your lips as if you were about to say “rr” 2 – Hum through your mouth and your nose Rahzel-style – that is, at the SAME TIME 3 – Do steps 1 and 2 together outwards, then inwards, then anyway you want 4 – Go out then in sharply to get the clown horn 5 – Use the throat tap for a cool effect Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox. Beatbox tutorial – Click roll

www.fattonybbx.com I honestly cannot stress enough how hard this sound is. It’s by far the toughest I’ve taught so far. Hope you guys can do it alright! To make the sound 1 – Put the front of your tongue against the top of your mouth, a little bit behind your front teeth. Push a little to keep it in place 2 – Suck air over the side of your tongue so it clicks multiple times against the top of your mouth 3 – You might get a sharp dolphin-like sound – this is normal, it means you’re on the right track 4 – You can do this while humming because you suck air only into your mouth, not into your lungs This really will take a lot of practice and experimentation. Good luck! Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox. Beatbox tutorial – Hollow clop

www.fattonybbx.com This should be a nice easy one, the hollow clop. Just do the block click, the easiest sound in the entire universe, with an open throat. This isn’t the only sound you can add a hollow effect to – more on that later, me thinks. Aren’t I a tease? How to make the sound 1 – Learn the block click 2 – Ensure your throat is open 3 – Do the block click, but using more force and pressure from your tongue itself Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox. Beatbox tutorial – Inward K snare

www.fattonybbx.com This is where things get more fun, certainly for me. The inward K snare is a tricky sound to get the hang of, but it means you can beatbox forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and… you get the point. To make the sound 1 – Put your tongue against the top of your mouth 2 – Suck air using your lungs and snap your tongue away from the side of your mouth to get the “K” sound 3 – For the “shh” afterwards continue inhaling – as the air rushes over your tongue you’ll get plenty of air and the nice sound! Beatbox tutorial – Dry kick

www.fattonybbx.com The dry kick. Simple, but very effective. I’ll be posting a couple of simple beats using this and the 808 snare soon. To make the sound 1 – Make a “duh” sound, as in “dog” 2 – Take away the “uh” so you just get an almost tap-like “d” 3 – That’s it! It’s a rather quiet sound, so be aware of this. You can make it hollow to give it a bongo-esque sound Described as “[one] of the finest exponents of the hip-hop discipline” by YouTube’s music blog, Fat Tony’s tutorial series is THE definitive guide to learning how to beatbox.
