www.fattonybbx.com Alright, alright, I’ve put this one off enough. Here is the tutorial for “that sound Hikakin and Daichi does”, or to call it by it’s proper name, the Sega sound. I’ve actually received emails for this sound in the past but only Hikakin’s recent “world record” video where he does this sound for 14 seconds (a “record” that I totally blew out of the water with a time almost double that, I’d like to add) has caused a real influx of requests. So, here you go. It’s actually a very easy sound to do, although some beatboxers get it sounding absolutely incredible (like KrNfX, and Hikakin himself). The sound pre-dates Hikakin enormously, however, and can be traced back to the early 2000s, so it’s not particularly new. So there you go. To make the sound 1 – Learn the inward zipper, and either the inward clickroll or inward uvular oscillation 2 – Combine the inward zipper with the inward clickroll or inward uvular oscillation Also, I’m still waiting for Hikakin to tackle the Drop It Like It’s Hot challenge. www.fattonybbx.com THIS SOUND IS GREAT BECAUSE IT’S SO LOUD!!! CLICK!!! CLICK!!! CLIIIICK!!!!!!!!! Haha… I amuse me. This is honestly a dangerous sound to do. I’m not lying when I say I was bleeding from my mouth because of it – it’s the only beatbox sound that’s had any kind of negative effect on me! Take care, take plenty of breaks, keep yourself hydrated, and be sensible. If it hurts, stop! It took a lot of practice and experimenting with different “methods” of pressure before I got this sound. A beatboxer called Marv-Ill has them absolutely mastered, as does Roxorloops. To make the sound 1 – Open your mouth slightly 2 – Put your tongue against the roof of your mouth. It should pretty much cover most of your teeth too 3 – Suck hard, as if sucking your tongue. You should still be able to breathe through your nose – this is evident by the fact you can hum making this sound 4 – Open your jaw wider at the same time as snapping your entire tongue off of the roof of your mouth You might get a slight “duck calling” sound. This is perfectly normal and is a sign you’re on the right track. Things to check if you can’t get the sound are the positioning of your tongue and the amount of pressure. www.fattonybbx.com The electro scratch is my favorite scratch because it can sound very similar to the Abra scratch (commonly called the “crab scratch”) but A) you don’t look like a moron doing it, and B) I don’t hate it with the vengeance of an angry squirrel. Yep, you read correctly, I hate the Abra scratch. Far too overrated a sound, it’s almost impossible to do in a beat without completely destroying the power of your sounds, and everybody loves it to the point of despair. ANYWAY! This is a very fun sound to drop into beats, particularly faster beats. To make the sound 1 – Whisper the word “chewy” 2 – That’s… pretty much it. Also try the words “cherry”, “cheery”, and “sherry” 3 – To put it into beats, replace hi hats with the scratch. It works well with the inward K as well. The shirt I’m wearing is from www.mic-ware.com, by the way – I highly recommend you look at some of their threads, they are, as they say in the beatboxing world, “bloody awesome”. www.fattonybbx.com Ahhhh the first tutorial I ever made. I’m posting this purely for the embarrassment factor – it’s awesome to see how far I’ve come since then, mind. Sexy hair though, I’m sure you agree. This was filmed on a Nokia N73 and this video is exactly why A) you should NEVER film beatboxing on a poor quality camera and B) why you should always have your camera resting on something. To make the sound… 1 – Learn the dry kick 2 – Learn how to do the dry kick with your lips together 3 – Make high pitched “da” and “diddle” sounds Hope you either learn the trumpet or laugh with me at how bad this first tutorial was! Interesting fact – I was reading the script off of my laptop. That’s why I frequently look away from the camera.
